Minerals, ores and concentrates usually need to be moved around by bulk transportation such as trucks, bins, rail wagons etc.

The materials are often abrasive or corrosive so protective coatings or liners are needed for protection. Different minerals or ores can require liners with specific properties.

Blackbee Specialist Coatings staff have sprayed Nukote polyurea transport linings into hundreds of rail wagons, bins, side tippers, trucks and trailers.

Formulations and processes are available to manage corrosion, abrasion, chemicals and excessive product hangup.

The Challenges

  • Mineral ores are often highly abrasive and contain high levels of corrosive salts
  • The process of loading and discharging the bins can damage vulnerable transport linings or coatings
  • Bins flex and distort during service which cracks hard, rigid coatings such as High Build Epoxy
  • Many ores will stick in the corners of the bins, which then don't empty completely. This leads to product hanging up .
  • Damage is often gradual, but eventually extensive repairs or replacement is required.
  • Corroded steel is contaminated, which makes it difficult for repairs to adhere well
  • There are often hundreds of transport bins or wagons in a fleet, which is a significant investment overall, however the individual unit value may not be high and doesn't justify great expense

While it is best to install a suitable protective transport liner from new, older corroded items can be successfully repaired, and then lined to extend the life of your fleet. We can even set up temporary blast and coat facilities on your site to minimise cost and disruption.

Nukote ST combines very good chemical and abrasion resistance with flexibility and low moisture vapour permeability.

Nukote HAR provides the ultimate in abrasion resistance combined with a very low coefficient of friction to minimise product hangup.

Nukote HTD is a tough, high modulus polyurea that stays in place even when it is mechanically damaged.
